NUTRITION-News
The Academic Medical Center is one of the two university hospitals in
Amsterdam. In the beginning of the ’90-s the nutrition support team
(NST) started and defined optimal nutrition for adults being the intake
of 1.5 grams of protein per kg. This view on nutrition, propagated by
the leader of the team, Prof. Dr. Hans Sauerwein, caused a clinical
revolution in Dutch clinical nutrition. Thinking in terms of energy and
protein need in relation to body weight instead of thinking in terms of
absolute amounts became gold standard in the Netherlands. The words
spread all over the country and nowadays protein intake is one of the
indicators of good clinical practice in nutritional support of
malnourished or hospitalized patients as stated by the government.
We are connected to all major nutrition groups in the Netherlands:
NESPEN (dutch PEN – group), Nutrition Support Teams, Nutrition Support
Nurses Group, Malnutrition Steering Committee and internationally
related to ESPEN, especially the HAN group, BAPEN and ASPEN. We also
collaborate with the university hospital of Groningen for small bowel
transplantation.
Wir wollen Fachärzte und Pfleger topaktuell und wissenschaftlich fundiert über Studien, fachspezifische Entwicklungen und deren praktische Umsetzung informieren, um sie in ihrer Arbeit und Fortbildung zu unterstützen.
