La réalisation d’une radiographie quotidienne systématique du thorax
chez tous les patients sous soins intensifs est devenue un standard
général au cours des dernières décennies, faisant désormais partie
intégrante des processus à l’unité des soins intensifs. Cette façon de
procéder remonte à une recommandation de l’American College of
Radiology, selon laquelle un cliché radiographique du thorax doit être
pris systématiquement au moins une fois par jour chez tous les patients
sous ventilation artificielle ou dans un état cardio-pulmonaire
instable, afin de permettre une identification précoce de tout
changement inattendu ou significatif susceptible d’échapper à la
détection clinique.
Cette routine quotidienne a été mise en
question ces dernières années par plusieurs études. Celles-ci ont
observé une faible incidence de changements importants ayant
effectivement une influence directe sur le traitement ultérieur des
patients sous soins intensifs.
